This is a very interesting documentary about women in leadership roles in the Church. It will undoubtedly upset a large majority of people who see this as a patriarchial misogynistic debate. This took place recently in the South Baptist Convention (SBC); America’s largest protestant denomination. It is a good documentary that showcases this controversy which has ripple effects in all religious organizations.
We ask that you consider 3 interesting points to consider before you watch:
1) this has only been controversial for a century or so. Throughout most of the Christian church, for the past two-thousand years, women have not held leadership roles into the Church or be allowed to become members of the clergy. It would be accurate to state that this has only become a controversy in the twentieth and twenty-first century.
2) No Old Testament clerical system, according to rabbinic law allowed women priests. When God (YHWH) set up His law with Moses at Mount Sanai, He did not allow for women priests.
These are just three empirical facts we think should be considered before watching this documentary to allow yourself a well-balanced mind to debate this topic.
