DOES GOD ACCEPT YOUR MARRIAGE OR ARE YOU LIVING IN ADULTERY…

This piece is sure to rub some people wrong, but if God addressed it in His word, then I must address it. People get both married and divorced for many different reasons. But, it’s God’s will for a MAN and WOMAN (only)… FOR THOSE WHO SAY JESUS NEVER ADDRESSED HOMOSEXUALITY… Matthew 19:3-5 (NKJV) 3 The Pharisees […]

      1. The truth of this is YES (in most cases). That is why America is so broken. The institute of marriage means nothing anymore. This is one of the reasons why the Catholic Church will not marry divorced people, because of this passage. It is more complex than that but you get the sentiment. The point is, Jesus was serious about the institute of marriage, and your average person (even your average Christian) is not. That is the problem.

      2. Times have moved on. There isn’t really a good reason why a divorced woman shouldn’t marry again and hopefully find happiness where there was pain before. It certainly doesn’t follow that her second husband is an adulterer…

      3. “Times do not move on” from the creator: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8 ESV). The heart of the gospel is not man/woman happiness but TRUTH. Truth is much more important (and difficult to cope with) than happiness or pleasure. It is in the pursuit of happiness that many times humans hurt other humans. I suggest you read one of my latest posts that tackle this subject: https://meaningfulmasculinity.org/2022/02/17/the-evils-of-co-parenting/
It scratches the surface of your problem.

      4. Yes I saw that post. It’s a different issue and it doesn’t seem right to me either. Returning to Matthew 5:32, if that’s really God’s word on the subject, I don’t think much of God, so that’s the Catholic Church’s problem rather than mine. However, I am more inclined to believe that it is one of the embellishments that I referred to earlier, worked into the Gospel by one of the Holy men who worked on establishing Christianity in the 1st century AD. Designed for the culture that prevailed at the time.

      5. I appreciate your thought process but I think you are not looking at the issue philosophically. You seem to have a “your viewpoint only” way of looking at this issue. It is not how “man” judges God’s word; if God is the creator of all things, including morality, then His morality is the standard, not you (man). You are merely looking at the issue, I am writing about the divine order or the big picture. It is not about divorce, it is about living righteously within the world of the creator. If God is the creator, which I postulate that He is, then His moral law or Word (Jesus Christ) IS truth, not just the truth. Trust me, God is not concerned with what man thinks of Him, we need to be extremely concerned with what God thinks of us.
Also, Christianity was NOT the prevailing culture of the first century, paganism/polytheism. Christians were highly persecuted for holding these views. I appreciate the dialogue I pray this helps you in some meaningful way.

      6. It’s been an interesting discussion thank you. Yes we do seem to have different viewpoints and probably always will, but that’s OK. Let’s not fall out. Hopefully we can look forward to discussing other things on other posts.
